Posada was brother-in-law of governor of Florida Pedro Menéndez de Márquez, serving him in the Florida government.〔(Witness to Empire and the Tightening of Military Control: Santa Elena's Second Spanish Occupation, 1577-1587 ). Maria Menendez inherited the title of royal treasurer of Saint Augustine of his father.〔
